My name is Roy Kitchen and I am a prime example that you can make it
regardless of your circumstances. I came from a divorced family, was raised
in the projects, and had to work at an early age to help support my family.
I found inspiration in my mother who instilled into me the principles
of hard work, a strong character, and to believe in a higher power.
Her support and unconditional love made me the man that I am
today.
My motto is: “If you believe in your dreams and never give up you can
accomplish anything.” This philosophy has helped me to become a
better person and advance my career. My professional career has gone through many
stages over the past two decades. I am currently the Department Administrator for the
Center of Distance Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. I
taught Sales Management and Marketing at the University of Central Arkansas for over eight years.
I received both my Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Arkansas.
I always dreamed of becoming a doctor or lawyer and never imagined that someday I would
become a writer. In fact, when I married Lynne I told her that I didn’t even like to read. I would read,
but only if I needed to learn something. Lynne was a relentless reader and often shared the details
of the stories and books she was reading. She is well read and well spoken. his inspired me to start reading. I then
discovered a great love of reading and of words.
After seeing my students struggle with public speaking, I decided to write
“Phobia,” not only to help them, but, to help others overcome America’s number one fear. In
“Phobia” I discuss the five keys to help anyone overcome their fear and learn to speak with more
confidence.
